Objective: Aspects of gut physiology in pigs and chicken
Duration: 4 days
Lectures:
- Gut physiology and functions;
- intestinal parasitology;
- tracer methodology to measure gut function;
- interaction of feed components with the gut;
- nutrition- dependent gut pathophysiology;
- introduction to microscopic investigation of the gut.
Practical Training:
- Gut tissue collection in pigs and chicken;
- breath tests to analyse gut function in pigs;
- methods to measure gut proliferation and protein synthesis;
- gut immunohistochemistry and microscopy;
- quantification of nematode infections in chickens;
- mRNA abundance analysis of relevant molecules in gut tissues;
- plasma metabolite and amino acid analysis.
