Zinc oxide

-

An inorganic compound that is commonly used in animal feed as a zinc source. Zinc oxide has been used as a supplement to prevent and reduce the incidence of postweaning diarrhea, in addition to meeting the nutritional requirements for zinc. However, studies have shown that excessive use of zinc oxide has a negative impact on the environment. The European Commission decided in June 2017 to ban the use of high doses of zinc oxide (3000 mg/kg) beginning in 2022.
