The world was watching as the first-ever FAO Global Conference on Sustainable Livestock Transformation unfolded at the headquarters in Rome. This monumental event placed a spotlight on the indispensable role of animal source food in creating a healthier planet, a greener environment, and ultimately, a better life for all. It was an occasion where global experts, young visionaries, and seasoned veterans came together to discuss the most pressing issues of our time. As an Early-Stage Researcher for the MonoGutHealth MSCA-ITN project, I had the privilege of not only witnessing this historic event but also contributing to the global youth dialogue.
The overarching theme of the conference couldn’t have been timelier. In a world riddled with challenges related to climate change, food security, and public health, the conversation surrounding sustainable livestock practices has never been more crucial. The livestock sector stands at a crossroads, where its choices can either exacerbate these challenges or be the cornerstone of their solution. And it was heartening to see that the voices at the global conference resonated perfectly with the focus of our project at MonoGutHealth MSCA-ITN.
One of the highlights of the conference was undoubtedly the global youth statement, and I was honored to be a part of it. This statement was a call to action directed at decision-makers worldwide. It demanded that the youth be given a more prominent role in shaping policies and implementing innovative ideas. As we know, the future belongs to the next generation, and their voices and ideas deserve not only to be heard but also to be integrated into the policies that will shape their world.
As an Early-Stage Researcher, my experience was nothing short of extraordinary. I had the opportunity to collaborate with passionate and forward-thinking young individuals from diverse corners of the world. We were all driven by a common goal: to find innovative solutions that would not only ensure the sustainability of livestock systems but also promote inclusivity and equity in the process.

As an Early-Stage Researcher, I am profoundly grateful for the opportunity to be part of this extraordinary event.
